This Year, with COVID-19 around, it’s especially important for those who are eligible to receive their flu vaccine.

This autumn/winter, the flu vaccine will be offered to all children in Scotland aged 2 to 5 years (and not yet in school) children must be aged 2 years or above in 1st September 2020 to be eligible. All parents and carers of children aged 2 to 5 years will recieve a centrally-issued letter and leaflet inviting them to arrange their child’s vaccination.

The flu vaccine is alos offered to all primary school children at school.

Please find the First Minister’s full speech linked below but the main points to note are:

• From 23 September 2020, household gatherings will not be permitted across Scotland, meaning people cannot visit other houses.  There will be exceptions for those living alone, or alone with children, who form extended households.  The rules will also not apply to couples who do not live together, or to tradespeople or for the provision of informal childcare - such as by grandparents

• Up to six people from two different households can continue to meet outdoors, including in private gardens.  Children under the age of 12 will be exempt from both the limit of six and the limit of two households if they are meeting outside. 

• From 25 September 2020, there will be a 10pm curfew in all pubs and restaurants

• Work from home where possible

• It is advised against car sharing with people outside their own household

Dear colleagues

 We have contacted Public Health Scotland to seek clarity over children showing temperatures following immunisations. We would be grateful if all nurseries could follow this advice for children that have a high temperature or any other COVID symptoms, even if this follows a recent immunisation; and advise the parents of nursery children accordingly.

Public Health Scotland have advised that the nursery must continue to follow their protocol and the child is to be collected from nursery immediately if showing a high temperature, even if this follows from a recent immunisation. This is due to the risk that the child could have COVID as well as vaccine related fever.  They should therefore follow the COVID-19 isolation guidance regardless of whether they have recently had a vaccine or not, and should be tested if they develop symptoms of COVID-19. Children must only return to nursery once they have been clear of a temperature for 48 hours and once any other COVID-related symptoms have cleared and following a negative COVID test result. Without a negative test result they must stay in isolation for 14 days since the start of symptoms.

If a child or anyone in a household has COVID symptoms (new continuous cough, high temperature, loss of smell or taste), household members should ALL stay at home and the person with symptoms should be tested.

We would like to share information received below from the Scottish Government, regarding the newly available free Test & Protect – Protect Scotland App.

The free Protect Scotland App from NHS Scotland’s Test and Protect is now available to download on protect.scot and via the App Store and Google Play.

The free Protect Scotland App is here to help keep Scotland safe from coronavirus.  The app is the next step in stopping the spread of coronavirus and complements existing contact tracing measures, helping us to determine contacts that we may have otherwise missed, and allows us to alert people at risk far more quickly so they can take steps to reduce the risk of infecting others.

How the App Works

This app uses tried and tested technology developed by Apple and Google and is already working successfully in other countries across Europe. It works in the background using minimal data and will automatically alert you if you have been in close contact with another app user who has tested positive. And if you test positive, the app can quickly alert those you have had close contact with. The app uses Bluetooth technology, so it never knows your identity or location.

Campaign Information

The Protect Scotland App launch will be supported by a 4 week campaign across TV, radio, press, social media, digital, PR and partnerships activity. The campaign will direct you to the new protect.scot website, where you can learn more on how the app works, information on privacy and data and FAQs.

Dear Parent/Carers,

Firstly I would like to 'Thank' all parents/carers and their families who have followed the social distancing guidelines and Covid-19 guidance issued by the Scottish Government to ensure the safe working practices for all staff and children.

All education establishments across Scotland have been issued with further guidance that we have been asked to distribute to all parents & carers today.

It is important that you read and follow this guidance to ensure the safety of all staff and children attending educational establishments.

Please note that any parent/carer and their families not adhering to this legislation stated in the guidance will be reported to the relevant authorities.

 Dear Parent/Carers,

The First Ministers announcement on 30th July 2020 has confirmed that schools will return full time from 11th August, however some authorities may have different start dates and we are awaiting confirmation of NAC start date.

As soon as we have this I will email you all and i will also add it to the website. PLEASE NOTE: We are awaiting NAC confirmation that the authority is going to deliver the 1140 hours, we are hopeful that NAC will provide this guidance later today.

WKEYC is fully committed to delivering the 1140 and staff are busy preparing classes for our wee people to return to us. We are sooo excited and can't wait to see you all again and to meet our new wee ones.

Website: We have been updating the website daily and we would ask that you keep up to date with this as we are putting lots of useful information on it for you and this will include our risk assessment for the control of COVID-19.

We are now starting to add 360 video clips of all the classes for you and your children to view and to become familiar with the new classes. 

Our lovely garden areas are getting all spruced up ready for lots of outdoor play. 

With some of the restrictions that we will have in place, parents will need to  ensure that your child has an appropriate waterproof jacket, trousers and wellies as we have to refrain from using the nursery jackets at this time.

All children must come with a pair of indoor shoes as they have to change footwear prior to entering the classrooms. The ‘Our Uniform’ tab under the resources heading on the website has a link to the company called MYCLOTHING where you can purchase polo shirts and fleeces, please ensure that all clothing including footwear is labelled with your child's name. We would advise that your child has a fleecy to wear as we have to ensure that all windows are open all the time for increased ventilation.

Medications & Allergies: Should your child's health & well being requirements have CHANGED over this closure period we ask that you ensure you update us by email and we will email the consent form for you to complete and then provide us with any prescribed medication which must be handed in with its original box. Parents should have administered the first dose to ensure your child is not allergic to the medication.

If we can support you in any way we will strive to do our best for you and your family, please let us know how we can help you. So folks it's getting closer to us getting back to a wee bit of normality and we ask for your continued support in meeting any changes that we have had to make which will keep us all safe.

Firstly I thank you for your patience in waiting for the information on the classes.

The health, safety and wellbeing of your children and our staff is our highest priority. In order to ensure this, our planning is based on current guidance produced by Scottish Government. Therefore, we have two plans ready for your child’s early learning and childcare.

Letters have now been issued to parents/carers explaining why we’ve had to make changes to the class structures with regards to Covid-19.

Deputy First Minister of Scotland and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills John Swinney will be announcing whether it is safe for pupils to return to schools on a full-time basis as soon as possible, and no later than July 30.
