WKEYC are having a Toy Sale on 22nd November. Please see our flyer for details.
Please find below a link to a useful website on how to keep your child safe online.
WKEYC is a member of the sector membership association called 2020 Together (We Can) (2020twc).
2020twc was established in 2017 to represent owners and directors of nurseries in the Private Voluntary and Independent (PVI) sector, with a focus on the 1140hrs funding proposals.
Back in 2017, 2020twc highlighted to government all the issues we as a sector would face because of such a rapid expansion, particularly of the Public Sector.
Unfortunately, the warnings went unchecked and the inequities we see today set in.
We have ended up with a funding model that favours public sector nurseries over PVI settings. This is despite the policy saying funding would be sector neutral and there would be a level playing field. Funding was supposed to follow the child, it doesn’t.
We’ve ended up with massive churn in staffing in the PVI as there is a huge pay gap between what we are funded to pay our staff in the PVI compared to what an equivalently qualified member of staff in the public sector is paid. PVI are funded to Real Living Wage – currently £12 per hour, whilst public nursery jobs start at £16 per hour, rates agreed with COSLA and the public sector unions.
The funding and pay gaps have led to all of our children in PVI nurseries being treated inequitably.
To address these three issues the members of 2020twc have self-funded a video to tell our story.
Its All About the Children Video
In addition to the video 2020twc have also produced a supporting written manifesto which sets out three asks and four ways for government to meet these asks.
The aim is to work with Government to resolve these matters to ensure we secure:
Fair & equal funding
Equal pay for our PVI staff (it’s the same job) to align with the public sector and
All of our children being treated equitably, where funding does truly follow the child.
You may now be asking what you can do to help?
It’s simple, view the video, read the manifesto and if you agree with our collective aims, please tell us so. Parents, staff and other stakeholders have the power to effect policy change and to help us deliver on our simple aims.
As the video and manifesto make clear, ‘IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CHILDREN’.
We need a level playing field and that every child is valued and funded to the same level, so that the pay gap can be closed. This will then allow us and all the other PVI nurseries in Scotland to concentrate on the day job of providing world class Early Learning & Childcare for all our under 5’s.
Please support our campaign and make our voice heard.
To show your support let us know what you can do to help. And if you need further information, please email directors@2020twc.co.uk to let them know what you are looking for.
Enjoy the video and the read. We think it’s fantastic. It’s 10 minutes to tell a very complex story in a simple and engaging manner.

MMR Against Measles – Updated Toolkit – January 2024
With two cases of laboratory-confirmed measles since October 2023, one of which was confirmed last week, Public Health Scotland (PHS) is encouraging the public to take up the offer of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine which is highly effective in protecting against measles.
Public Health Scotland is re-issuing a social media toolkit with assets and suggested captions. Please use these assets on your nursery and/or schools social media channels to raise awareness of this important public health issue, using the hashtag #MMRAgainstMeasles.

Dear parent/carer,
HM Inspectors from Education Scotland will be visiting us to conduct an inspection
during the week commencing 11th December 2023. You can find out more about inspection, from the
Inspection and review documentation pages of Education Scotland’s website.
As part of the inspection, Inspectors gather the views of stakeholders via an online
survey which is available here https://forms.education.gov.scot/tag/03?lng=en&cs=CS2003004175&t=1.
I would like to encourage you to complete the survey. Inspectors will also be
meeting with groups of parents during the inspection so to be part of that discussion
you should complete the survey with additional links provided to indicate your
interest in taking part.
You should complete the survey by 1st December 2023 for one child or for each of your
children in attendance.
If you have trouble completing the survey at home, you are welcome to come to the early years office and we
provide you with access to a computer to fill out the survey.
Kind regards
Angela Pisani, Early Years Manager

It’s not too late for your child to get the flu vaccine.
Getting children vaccinated is the most effective way to reduce the risk of children getting flu and having to take time off nursery or childcare or spreading it to friends and family who are at greater risk this winter.
To help remind parents and carers about the importance of the flu vaccine, Public Health Scotland has updated the social media toolkit with assets and captions for you to share on your social media channels.
These resources encourage parents and carers to rebook their child’s vaccination appointment if they missed it.
Click here to download the social media assets. You’ll be able to download these for Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, depending what social media platforms your nursery uses.
Click here to view the social media toolkit. You’ll see wording which can be posted alongside the asset on your chosen social media platform to announce when consent forms have been sent and encourage returns by your deadline.
There is also a range of resources available on the Public Health Scotland website for children aged 2-5 including informed consent leaflets, draft SMS and email copy, briefings and videos.
All the resources, sized for different channels, are available to download here.
Please could you regularly feed these social media assets into your planned activity using the hashtag #ChildFluScot.
