Test and Protect - Step by Step Guide in English

Let’s be safe, you and me

STOP THE SPREAD OF CORONA-VIRUS

Introduction

  • We understand that at this time you may have concerns, and be unsure about your child returning to nursery. We aim to have created a welcoming and safety focused environment for everyone to enjoy. The systems we will be using have been created to reflect Government guidance and we aim to provide you reassurance that protecting our staff and your children is our priority.

  • Working together is also important for creating a safer environment so we ask that you work with us to ensure that anyone who is unwell does not attend our centre. We also ask that whilst you are at home and outside the nursery that you continue with your good hygiene practices, social distancing and avoid contact with any individuals showing symptoms associated with Corona-virus.

  • If you have doubt about your health or that of your child, we would ask that you seek and follow medical advice before coming back to nursery.

Safety, starts when you arrive at the nursery

• Please maintain a 2 metre distance at all times from other people. We will have areas marked for waiting at your dedicated entrance/exit door.

  • Our staff will be on hand to beckon you forward at safe intervals.

  • We ask that you do not approach the entrance door as part of a group and if possible only one parent/carer to approach the door to drop off and collect your child from nursery.

  • If possible, when you approach the entrance we ask you wear a face covering, as this will help protect you.

Hello and welcome

• Entrance into the nursery will be limited as much as possible, and where we can, we would like it to be by appointment but if you do need to go inside, our staff will take your temperature and ask about your general health before you can enter.

  • If your child develops a new continuous cough or a temperature of 38oC whilst in the nursery we will contact you and ask for your child to be picked up; so please, ensure we have all your latest contact details.

  • At the entrance our staff will be wearing a face mask, apron and gloves to protect them whilst they take children into nursery, and should they identify an unwell child with a high temperature or Corona-virus symptoms the child/person will not be permitted to enter the nursery.

Safe and familiar environment

 • Throughout the day staff will be continually monitoring the health and well being of the children and each other. Should anyone develop symptoms associated with Corona-virus or a temperature of 38oC or above, then they will need to leave the setting and will be asked to not attend for 14 days.

• The nursery will have in place new signage and focal points to promote distancing, directional flow of foot traffic and good hygiene practices.

• Fixtures and fittings are being regularly cleaned with Milton or antiviral cleaner, in line with our robust cleaning regimes.

• The soft furnishings in our rooms have been limited to those that can be easily cleaned and they will be thoroughly washed at very regular intervals.

  • Layouts, furnishings and resources in all our rooms have been reviewed so our environment remains as familiar as possible but unfortunately, we have had to remove malleable play, such as sand and water to reduce the infection control risk.

Supervision and supporting your child with safety in mind

• Children will be supported by key workers but in designated cluster groups and our staff will not where possible transfer between these groups or rooms.

  •  Each cluster group will have structured activities which allow the children to move around and interact with each other. This allows key workers to continually interact with the children, and always be on hand to provide comfort and reassurance whenever it is needed.

  • We will not be restricting the movement of the children whilst in their rooms but, we may need to timetable some activities, like garden time to ensure that our staff can remain in their cluster groups as much as possible.

  • As they always have, our staff will wear appropriate PPE when toileting children, changing nappies and helping children at mealtimes and at all times will complete these activities using time separation and children and staff will remain in their cluster groups.

  • Our educational resources in the classrooms will now be provided to the children individually so we can ensure that items are thoroughly cleaned and sterilised between use.

  • All our outdoor spaces will be accessible for all our children, with structured activities so children can enjoy their experiences in their cluster groups, whilst staff can still practice effective distancing.

Safety at WKEYC is about helping the children understand the new changes

  • We understand that the changes that the children are currently experiencing may create a lot of questions and to help with any explanations we will be encouraging our staff to build this into the children's individual Learning Plans.
